As we speak, the people of Anambra South Senatorial District are crying out for representation in the Senate, a representation that has been absent for far too long.
It is been about a year since Senator Ifeanyi Ubah passed away, leaving the seat vacant.
Yet, despite the prolonged absence of their senator, the people of the district are still waiting for a by-election to be conducted.
To the aspirants campaigning tirelessly on social media, I urge you to shift your focus from glossy AI-generated campaign pictures and WhatsApp forwards.
It is time for action. The people of Anambra South deserve a voice in the Senate, and it is your responsibility to ensure that their voices are heard.
The legislative seat is ambulatory, meaning it doesn’t begin running from the day the occupier is sworn in.
Instead, the seat is already running, and the district is losing out on crucial representation and resources.
Every passing day means more missed opportunities for development and progress.
This is where the power of the courts comes in. I strongly advise you to consider seeking an order of mandamus compelling the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct the long-overdue by-election.
Time is of the essence. The longer you wait, the more the people of Anambra South suffer.
It is not just about representation; it is about the tangible benefits that come with having a senator.
The district is losing out on pecuniary accruals and other benefits that could be used to improve the lives of its people.
So, to all the aspirants and supporters out there, I urge you to take a step back from your social media campaigns and think about what truly matters.
Instead of sharing pictures and slogans, let is see some tangible action. Let us see you in the courts, fighting for the rights of the people. Let us see you demanding that INEC does its job.
The people of Anambra South Senatorial District are not just spectators; they are the ones who will ultimately benefit or suffer from the outcome of this situation.
It is time for collective action. Work together to ensure that the by-election is conducted without further delay.
The ball is in your court.
