The Anambra State governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Sir Paul Chukwuma, on Friday drew attention at the Progressives Digital Media Summit held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, with an address that highlighted the pivotal role of new media in Nigeria’s democratic and developmental processes.

Chukwuma, who delivered one of the keynote addresses at the high-profile gathering, spoke on the transformative potential of digital platforms in shaping public discourse, strengthening institutions and accelerating socio-economic development.

He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for, in his words, “upholding the tenets of democracy and supporting efforts towards Nigeria’s sustained democratisation,” adding that the digital age offers Nigeria a unique opportunity to consolidate reforms in governance.

The summit, which marked Chukwuma’s first major public engagement since his call to the Nigerian Bar in June, attracted an array of dignitaries including President Tinubu; the Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia; his Sokoto State counterpart, Ahmed Aliyu; the President’s Chief of Staff, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila; the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, as well as senior government officials and policy experts.

In his remarks, President Tinubu urged Nigerians to embrace new media as a tool for national development rather than division, stressing that responsible digital engagement was critical to economic growth and political stability.

The Progressives Digital Media Summit, which examined the intersection of technology and governance, provided a forum for policymakers, technocrats and political leaders to explore strategies for harnessing the power of digital innovation to strengthen democracy and drive development.

Sir Paul Chukwuma’s strong outing at the Villa is seen by observers as further evidence of the growing profile of the YPP candidate ahead of the November 8 governorship election in Anambra State.
