Anambra’s skies opened up yesterday — but the rain could not wash away the fire in the hearts of the Young Progressives Party (YPP).

Under a torrential downpour in Amawbia, near Awka, the state capital, governorship candidate Paul Chukwuma and running mate Uzu Okagbue flagged off their ‘Joy Is Coming’ campaign in style.

With drums pounding and supporters drenched but defiant, the massive roadshow snaked its way from Amawbia Bridge to Washington Grammar School, Onitsha, drawing tricycle riders, market women, and cheering youths who sang the theme song at the top of their lungs.

Chukwuma came out swinging.“If a State Assembly member can be kidnapped and killed, who is safe in Anambra?” he thundered, recalling the brutal murder of Justice Azuka.

Visibly moved, he vowed to restore security, transparency, and economic life to the state.

“Anambra has lost the sacredness of life… On November 8, we take it back!”

The YPP flagbearer also rallied support for Princess Njideka Ndiwe in the August 16 by-election, urging Onitsha voters to let her complete the projects her late brother started.

Running mate Okagbue delivered his own knockout punch:“The die is cast. No one will intimidate us. Paul Chukwuma will bring back joy to Anambra — and when a good man is in power, the people rejoice!”

State chairman Cletus Obi and Ndiwe joined the call, demanding total YPP victory in both the Assembly and governorship polls.

As the drenched but determined crowd chanted “Joy is coming!”, it was clear — rain or shine, the YPP is ready for a fight.
