The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a suspected member of Indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB).
The armed secessionist whose name was given as Friday Nnamdi Anyikame, male, 25 years, was arrested on Thursday in Ihiala.
A press release by the Anambra State Police Command spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect is a member of a proscribed Secessionists Group.
“The arrest followed an early morning intelligence-led operation on 20th November 2025, as Police operatives attached to Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu apprehended one Friday Nnamdi Anyikame, male, 25 years, in Ihiala and recovered 2 (two) pump-action firearms and 29 (twenty-nine) live cartridges.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being an active member of an armed group and revealed that he operates from a criminal camp located in Ogbaru LGA.”
Ikenga who quoted the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, said he commended the operatives for their swift and coordinated response, and has ordered an immediate intensification of security surveillance and targeted raid operations across the State.
He further assured residents that the Command is already closing in on other fleeing members of the gang and is determined to dismantle their criminal network in Anambra.
He said: “The CP urges Anambra people to remain vigilant and continue to support the Police with timely and actionable information that will aid ongoing security operations.”
