The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, yesterday convened a high-level strategic security meeting with Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) at the State Command Headquarters, Awka, as part of renewed efforts to strengthen proactive policing across the state.
The meeting focused on revitalizing operational strategies, reinforcing intelligence-led policing, and reassessing ongoing investigations into major cases within the state.
CP Orutugu charged officers to remain steadfast in their constitutional duties of protecting lives and property, stressing the need for discipline, professionalism, and closer collaboration with community stakeholders.
He directed Area Commanders and tactical teams to increase visibility patrols, surveillance, and intelligence sharing to consolidate recent gains in crime reduction across Anambra.
The highlight of the session was the presentation of cheques worth ₦59,186,177.62 under the Inspector-General of Police’s Group Life Insurance and Family Welfare Scheme to 38 families of officers who died in the line of duty.
The CP, who personally handed over the cheques, described the gesture as evidence of the Force leadership’s commitment to the welfare of personnel and their families.
He noted that the sacrifice of fallen officers remains etched in the history of the Command.
In a related act of solidarity, CP Orutugu also announced cash support for the family of an Inspector who was killed while repelling an insurgent attack at Aguata. He assured that the Command would not abandon families of its heroes.
Reaffirming the Police Command’s commitment to safety and security, the CP urged Ndi Anambra to continue supporting law enforcement with credible information that will aid in the fight against crime.
