Tension is mounting across Anambra State as the dreaded Neo-Black Movement of Africa allegedly plots cult-related violence, sparking a swift and strategic response from the state police command.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, ordered a total clampdown on any unlawful gathering, warning cultists and their sponsors to stay away or face dire consequences.
According to intelligence and community-based reports, the Neo-Black Movement may stage violent initiation rites and reprisals against rival groups today, July 7, 2025.
These activities are said to be part of an ongoing supremacy battle between cult factions—particularly in student-populated areas.
To forestall chaos, the CP has deployed the School Protection Squad (SPS) and directed operatives to go fully on the offensive.
Surveillance has been beefed up around schools, hostels, black spots, and motor parks, with undercover officers positioned to intercept any suspicious activity.
CP Orutugu didn’t mince words in his warning to hotel, lounge, and studio apartment owners: “Don’t host these criminals!” He called on all facility operators to be vigilant and to reject or report suspicious bookings that may be linked to cult meetings or initiation ceremonies.
The SPS, a brainchild of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, is already active in campuses across the state, focusing on protecting students, staff, and school infrastructure.
The police are urging the public to stay alert and report any strange gatherings or threats to security.
“Security is everyone’s business,” CP Orutugu stressed. Contact details for DPOs and Area Commanders were included in the statement for easy access.
The Anambra Police Command insists it will leave no stone unturned to keep the state cult-free and peaceful.
