Anambra State Police command has entered a partnership with the department of forensic science of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, to train their personnel on forensic science.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga said the partnership was reached when the Head of Department of Forensic Science visited the commissioner of Police in Anambra, Mr Obono Itam.
Ikenga said the commissioner advocates for officers to engage in self-development courses to acquire more skills and to enhance their policing efficiency.
A press release by Ikenga said: “On 25/9/2024, the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam received the Head of Department Forensic Science Nnamdi Azikiwe University and advocate for officers to engage in self-development courses to build capacity and enhance their policing efficiency.
“The CP noted the need for retraining of Officers for a better policing system and to expose officers and men of the force to modern-day policing strategies and acquire more skills in crime prevention and the protection of lives and properties.”
He said the CP has overtime scheduled capacity development exercise in batches that is mandatorily for all personnel of the command to relearn Police Duties, Police acts and regulations.
He said other areas where the CP has trained personnel include, musketry, riot drills, foot drills, use of firearms, human rights, building courage and confidence in confronting armed hoodlums, responding to a distress call for better police service delivery in the State.
