Prof. Obiora Okonkwo Presides as Chairman as Knights of St. John International Celebrate 30 Yrs of Service

Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, OFR, presided as Chairman of the Occasion as the Knights of St. John International and Ladies Auxiliary, Lagos Grand Commandery, celebrated 30 years of service.
The event, held at the Catholic Church of the Ascension, Ikeja, Lagos State, was graced by several dignitaries, including the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was ably represented;
His Royal Majesty, Oba Rilwan Babatunde Akiolu, the Royal Father of the Day, also represented; and Chief Nnia Nwodo, former President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, who served as the keynote speaker.
The anniversary, which runs from October 10 to 12, 2025, is themed “Celebrating 30 Years of Service to God and Country.”
The three-day celebration features liturgical services, tributes, award presentations, colloquia, and cultural displays in honour of the Knights and Ladies who have dedicated three decades to spiritual growth and community development.
In his opening remarks, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, OFR — Chairman of the Occasion and Founder of United Nigeria Airlines — lauded the Knights for their steadfast commitment to faith and service.
“The enduring strength of the Knights of St. John International rests upon its deep spiritual foundation. For 30 years, you have been soldiers of Christ, translating faith into tangible works of service.
“I charge you not to rest on past achievements but to embrace the future by mentoring the next generation and ensuring that this noble mission continues to shine as a beacon of hope and faith. Our presence here is a collective affirmation that service to humanity is the very best work of life,” he said.
Prof. Okonkwo further emphasized the importance of catechism as the bedrock of the Catholic faith, urging the Church to remain steadfast in doctrine while evolving its approach to meet the spiritual needs of modern and future generations.
The Knights of St. John International, a Roman Catholic fraternal organization, continues to promote the virtues of faith, hope, charity, and fraternity.
The Lagos Grand’s 30th-anniversary celebration has attracted an impressive gathering of religious leaders, traditional rulers, government officials, and other distinguished Nigerians.
