Prof Sam Ike from Anambra Elected Anglican Bishop of Enugu

The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has nominated Venerable Professor Sam Ike as the Bishop-elect of the Anglican Diocese of Enugu.

Professor Ike, a renowned expert in Internal Medicine at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital Enugu, hails from Enugwuabo Ufuma town in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

He is among the seven Bishops elected to fill vacant Episcopal Sees in various Dioceses and four internal Ecclesiastical Provinces. The elected Bishops include:

1. Ven. Ephraim Gongdem – Jos Diocese
2. Ven. Dr. John Obinali – Okigwe Diocese
3. Ven. Prof. Sam Ike – Enugu Diocese
4. Ven. Dr. Godwin Odubena – Ijebu North Diocese
5. Ven. Bernard Hanson – Ahoada Diocese
6. Ven. Titus Alkali – Wusasa Diocese
7. Ven. Samuel O. Ifeyemi – Osun North Diocese

Additionally, four Archbishops were elected:

1. Rt. Rev’d Sosthenes Eze – Enugu Province
2. Most Rev’d Israel Afolabi Amao – Kwara Province
3. Rt. Rev’d Dr. Williams Oluwarotimi Aladekugbe – Ibadan Province
4. Most Rev’d Daniel Yisa – Lokoja Province

The elections were conducted during the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Episcopal Synod held on Monday, 12th August 2024, at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church, Maitama, Abuja.

The Primate of the Church of Nigeria, The Most Rev. Dr. Henry C. Ndukuba, announced the elections and congratulated the newly elected Bishops and Archbishops.

He prayed for God’s wisdom, strength, and good health to guide them in their new roles.

The Consecration of the Bishops-elect and the presentation of the Archbishops-elect will take place on Wednesday, 18th September 2024, during the Standing Committee Meeting of the Church, hosted by Nike Diocese in Enugu State.
