Journalists who visited the Anambra state judiciary headquarters on Tuesday 11 February 2025 to cover a court matter on the mysterious disappearance of a businessman in the state, Mr Benjamin Ezemma, who is also known as BigBen were disappointed over the sudden adjournment of the matter.
Ezemma has since November 12, 2024 gone missing, after he allegedly attended a meeting at the office of an Awka high chief, Ozo Jeff Nweke.
Operatives of DSS who are investigating the disappearance had dragged Nweke to court to explain his involvement in the disappearance of the businessman, but the matter was abruptly adjourned to February 20, leaving journalists who came to witness the sitting disappointed.
Meanwhile, the real reason behind adjournment of court seems to have surfaced. A sources said there is a new twist in the matter as some of Ezemma’s business associates are now also being suspected of having a hand in his disappearance. Ezemma was vice chairman of Dubai Estate in Awka before his disappearance.
THE RAZOR gathered that at about 6pm on Sunday, 9th February, 2025, the mother of one of the business partner of the missing man was allegedly kidnapped from her home in the village.
The source said investigation however revealed that the kidnap was masterminded by security operatives as a means to lure in Ezemma’s business associate, who has been into hiding all along.
The source said: “Security operatives were said to have decided to use his mother as a bait to smoke him out. So, they decided to use the Sunday, 9th February alleged kidnap of his mother to perfect their plans.
“The security operatives were said to have disguised as kidnapers, as they stormed her home, and, picked his mother to an unknown place. The family member said their mum was whisked away at about 6pm.
“His mother’s abductor, however, were said to have the same day at about 8pm called the son on his mobile phone, and, told him to come and pick his mother at a certain location.
“Before going, the son was said to have gone to the Nimo police station in company of some of his uncles. Two unarmed policemen on mufti were said to have been detailed to accompany him and his uncles.
“On arrival to where his mother was being kept, the security operatives freed the mother, and rather arrested him. Though his family members initially thought he was exchanged for his mother by his suspected mother’s kidnappers, they were, however, later informed that he was under the custody of the security operatives.
“His arrest was said to have been responsible for the sudden adjournment of the scheduled arraignment of Ozo Nweke and two others in a High Court of Anambra state, sitting in Awka on Tuesday, February 11 in connection with Big Ben’s missing case.”
The circumstances leading to the arrest of the son, who is a business associate of the missing man has given a fresh insight into the actual cause of Big Ben’s travail.
The source said this will therefore help for proper investigation of the case so that the true suspects responsible for the travail of the businessman would be arrested.
