The Anambra State government has described as false the report in some sections of the media that 15 Communities in Ogbaru Local Government Area were submerged by flood .
The Executive Secretary, Anambra State Emergency Management Agency SEMA, Chief Paul Odenigbo stated this while speaking with journalist factchecking the claims.
The report published by some online bloggers and media houses had claimed that 15 out of 16 communities in Ogbaru were already flooded and that residents had begun to move away from their houses.
Investigation shows that no community in Ogbaru had been submerged and that no government agency or authority spoke with those who dished out such report.
Chief Odenigbo while describing the report as false alarm said the water level was rising but that no situation at the moment warrants evacuation as there was no flood incident in the area.
According to him, the issue of getting holding centers ready is a routine exercise by SEMA in preparatory for any flood incident yearly.
Chief Odenigbo therefore stares that the true situation in Ogbaru and other parts of Anambra State is that flood has not reached that threatening stage as portrayed in the media report.
“Water is rising like in other parts of the country, but in Anambra state it has not reached that alarming stage where we ask those living in the riverine areas to relocate. I read the report , it’s a false story”
” We should stop telling lies about flooding , it is a very threatening situation that should not be played with. How will you go and report that a place is folded when it is not, it is not right at all. ”
The SEMA Executive Secretary used the medium to prepare the minds of the people living in the riverine areas to begin to monitor very closely the rivers around them as the agency is also doing same with relevant mechanisms so that when it gets to the point of relocation they will be able to move without delay.
In an interview, the Coordinator, Local Emergency Management Committee in Anambra state and Ogbaru Cordinator, Comrade Nnamdi Esmai said there was nowhere 15 Communities were flooded in the area as at 18th of September 2025.
According to him, the water level was rising and all the members of the Local Emergency Committee in the entire Ogbaru local government area have embarked on sensitization in churches and markets togive the people early warning alert just in case there is flood outbreak in the area.
