Residents of Mgbakwu in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State have lauded Senator Dr. Victor Umeh for the installation of solar-powered streetlights across the community and the ongoing construction of new classroom blocks at Abogu Primary School.
The solar streetlights, mounted at strategic points within the town, have dramatically improved nighttime visibility and boosted security.
Speaking on the development, a community leader, Mr. Chukwudi Okeke, described the project as a “lifesaver” for residents.
“Before now, moving around at night was risky. With these solar lights, darkness has been completely chased away. We can now walk freely in the evenings, and our children and traders feel safer,” he said.
Another resident, Mrs. Ngozi Eze, noted that the intervention has revitalised social and economic activities in the area.
“Our shops can stay open longer, and people are no longer afraid to attend evening meetings or events. This project has brought new life to Mgbakwu,” she stated.
Residents also expressed appreciation for the ongoing construction of a one-block, six-classroom building with modern toilet facilities at Abogu Primary School.
According to Mr. Ifeanyi Nwoye, a parent and community stakeholder, the project addresses years of neglect in the school.
“The old classrooms were in terrible condition. This new building will give our children a better place to learn and motivate the teachers as well. We are grateful to Senator Umeh for remembering our school,” he said.
A teacher at the school, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the project would significantly improve teaching and learning.
“When completed, this will reduce overcrowding and create a more comfortable environment for pupils. It is a big relief for us,” the teacher noted.
The projects form part of Senator Umeh’s constituency development initiatives aimed at improving security, education, and quality of life across Anambra Central Senatorial District.
Residents urged the senator to sustain the momentum, describing his interventions as evidence of responsive and people-centred representation.
