The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Anambra State Chapter, has sought a collaborative partnership with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to promote road safety in in the state.
Led by Chairperson Comrade Tochukwu Ifejika, the group visited the FRSC to welcome the new Sector Commander, CC Joyce Nnennaya Alexander, who assumed duty as the 15th substantive Sector Commander in the state.
Comrade Ifejika expressed NAWOJ’s support and goodwill towards fostering a closer working relationship between the two organizations to promote road safety.
She praised CC Alexander as a trailblazer, being the first female Sector Commander in the state, and acknowledged her impressive career progression.
NAWOJ emphasized the role of the media in public enlightenment and urged the FRSC to utilize various media outlets to spread road safety messages.
They drew attention to the alarming rate of fatal road crashes and reckless driving behaviours, such as neglecting seat belts and driving under the influence.
Sector Commander Alexander expressed her delight in receiving the NAWOJ delegation and appreciated their gesture.
She emphasized the importance of the media in promoting road safety and highlighted her focus on public enlightenment, particularly through her “MARC” initiative – Mothers Against Road Crashes. She sought NAWOJ’s partnership in this endeavor.
Sector Commander Alexander acknowledged the need for support from the state government to effectively address road safety challenges, citing ignorance and recklessness as contributing factors to road crashes.
The Head of Operations, Mrs. Okara Awassam, thanked NAWOJ for their timely visit, marking a historic moment with a woman at the helm of the FRSC in Anambra.
