The Social Democratic Party (SDP) National Working Committee (NWC) has appointed Distinguished Senator Ugochukwu Uba as the Deputy National Chairman (South) ahead of the 2027 elections.
The appointment was made during an NWC meeting presided over by SDP National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam.
Senator Uba’s appointment is in line with the SDP constitution and the mandate given to the NWC by the National Convention to fill vacant positions in the national leadership.
As a scholar, former public servant, and politician from Anambra State, South East Zone, Senator Uba brings a wealth of experience to the role.
His background includes serving as a Senator, Director General, and Honourable Commissioner in Anambra State, and as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Abuja.
He holds a first class bachelor’s degree and a PhD in Political Science.
The position of Deputy National Chairman (South) has been vacant for over five years, with previous occupants hailing from the South West region.
Senator Uba’s appointment marks a significant shift in the party’s leadership dynamics and is expected to strengthen the SDP’s leadership ahead of the 2027 elections.
Notably, Senator Uba was previously appointed as a member of the Party’s National Campaign Council (NCC) for the 2023 General Elections, serving as Director of the Admin & Finance Directorate.
In this role, he worked closely with the National Chairman, Advisers to the Council, party candidates, and State Executive Committees to promote electoral success and good governance under SDP leadership.
