Truth is always as clear as crystal. No matter how long and how much falsehood thrives, truth must someday shine through. The legal gymnastics to deny the truth of the authenticity of the SDP suffered a fatal fate at the Supreme Court yesterday, 19th of December, 2025.
An internal affair of the party which culminated in a hierarchical change in leadership was exploited by fifth columnists to destabilize the party. Sadly, INEC, as the electoral umpire decided to jettison the law it was set up to protect. It chose to give force to the whims of the enemies of the party, who were working from the inside.
Always as the galloping horse it is, the party refused to succumb to INEC’s attempt to entrench illegality. The party was confident that INEC had no mandate to interfere in its internal affairs. It therefore took the matter to court, seeking appropriate interpretation of the law. The Lord Justices of the Court of Appeal, agreed with the position of the party and posited that INEC was a meddlesome interloper in the internal affairs of the party.
Curiously, INEC, for very strange reasons, that could be interpreted as a covert job for the enemies of the party, went on appeal to the Supreme Court.
Yesterday, 19th December, 2025, the Supreme Court, in a landmark judgement berated the action of INEC. It gave an unambiguous verdict that political parties possess the powers and authority to handle their internal affairs without any form of meddlesomeness from INEC. The apex court was so incensed by INEC’s attempt to support illegality, that it awarded a whooping 2 million Naira cost against it.
With that victory, chiselled out from the arguments of the party’s lead counsel and 2023 Presidential Candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, SDP as a party, has proven once again, that it is driven by purpose and commitment to Democratic norms.
To the Anambra State Chapter of the party, the victory is exhilarating and a confirmation that the Anambra State SDP is indeed standing on solid and unimpeachable legal grounds. For those who have used INEC’s illegal adventurism to doubt the legitimacy of the party’s state executive committee, it is time to swallow pride and give honour to the state executive led by Hon. Prince Chinedu Ekwunife, who is strongly repositioning the party as the platform for all true democrats, who are ambitious to make differences in the 2027 general elections. We urge candidates who are willing, able and credible to contest to freely join SDP, the political party with zero tolerance for corruption and with focused leadership.
Anambra State SDP has its arms wide open, willing to partner with serious men and women who are desirous of an unblemished and progressive platform to use during the 2027 elections.
