Senator Victor Umeh, representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, has been described as a gift to Ndigbo.
This accolade was given on Thursday night when the senator was honoured by the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), South East Branch, during its 37th Annual General Meeting, Awards, and Gala Night held at the Enugu International Convention Centre.
Presenting the Special Recognition Award for Legislative Stewardship in Advancing Industry and Economic Development, Barr. Kenneth Okonkwo described Senator Umeh as “a gift not only to his family but to Anambra, the Igbo nation, and Nigeria at large.”
He praised the senator’s consistent contributions to national discourse, calling him “a political tactician with native and academic intelligence.”
“It is an honour and a privilege that I, Kenneth Okonkwo, was chosen to present this award to you. I do it with special delight on behalf of MAN. Congratulations,” he concluded.
In his remarks, Senator Umeh commended MAN South East for its role in repositioning the region after the devastation of the civil war, noting that the association continues to champion industrial recovery and economic renewal in the zone.
He emphasized that the Igbo people are naturally creative and industrious, expressing optimism that with sustained support, the South East could become “the Asia of Africa.”
“I pray that our region will truly become the desire of our founding fathers—people like M. I. Okpala—who used industrialization and agriculture to build the Old Eastern Region. We will attain it because we are growing,” Umeh said.
He also lauded the leadership of MAN South East—covering Anambra, Enugu, and Ebonyi—led by Chairperson Lady Dr. Ada Chukwudozie, who also serves as Chairman of Keystone Bank, and her Vice Chairman, Ichie Sunday Ezeobiora, for their vision and commitment to strengthening the industrial sector.
Senator Umeh assured the association of his continued support through proactive legislative engagement aimed at encouraging local investors and enhancing the regional manufacturing climate.
He urged MAN to maintain close collaboration with South East legislators to secure greater government attention and backing.
The Gala Night attracted prominent figures, including the National President of MAN, Otunba Francis Meshioye, OFR, and the Anambra State Commissioner for Industry, Hon. Christian Udechukwu, who chaired the event.
