The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions has waded into the case of Late Mr. Onyebuchi Anene, an Anambra State native who was brutally murdered by a police officer, ASP Adamu Buba, in Abuja.

The committee’s intervention follows a petition by Senator Victor Umeh, representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, who sought justice for his slain constituent.

Recall that Distinguished Senator Victor Umeh had on July 4, 2024 beseeched the Nigerian Senate for interventions into the matter which took place on May 22, 2024 involving his constituent, Mr Onyebuchi Anene, a native of Umuoramma Village in Awka, Anambra State and ASP Adamu Buba, a police officer under the F.C.T Command within Kubwa where the latter brutally murdered the former, an only son of his parents and father of two kids, over an argument.

In the wisdom of the Senate, the Case was referred to the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions.

This move is characteristic of Senator Umeh’s penchant for defending the Igbo cause and his commitment to effective representation of his people.

Senator Umeh’s tireless efforts in advocating for justice and equality for his constituents have earned him a reputation as a champion of the people.

His dedication to the Igbo cause is unparalleled, and his voice has been a constant presence in the fight against injustice and marginalization.

At a meeting on March 20, the committee received the widow of the deceased, Mrs. Ogochukwu Anene, and her legal team, as well as relatives of the police officer.

According to the committee chairman, Senator Neda Imasuen, the police have confessed to the crime and prosecuted/detained ASP Adamu Buba.

The committee has assured that justice will be served and has initiated moves to negotiate proper compensation and reconciliation between the two parties.

Senator Umeh’s efforts in seeking justice for the deceased have been acknowledged by the committee, with Senator Imasuen praising his commitment to achieving justice for his constituent.

This development is a testament to Senator Umeh’s effective representation of his people and his unwavering commitment to justice and equality.

“His constituents, and the entire Igbo community, can rest assured that they have a champion in Senator Umeh, who will stop at nothing to defend their rights and interests”, one of his constituents, Echezona Ibeneme, quipped.
