Over 45,000 shops reopened on Monday at Onitsha Main Market following the cessation of the sit-at-home order, with business activities reportedly at their peak and traders celebrating the resumption of trade, Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo disclosed on Wednesday.

He added that his administration has dismantled over 62 criminal camps across the state.

Speaking on the economic impact of the sit-at-home order declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) over the detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Governor Soludo noted that the Southeast geopolitical zone had suffered significant losses, with some businesses and investments relocating outside the region.

The governor made the remarks while speaking with State House correspondents after a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

On efforts to curb crime, Governor Soludo said his administration established the vigilante group Agunechemba, alongside anti-cult and anti-touting units, all of which are working collaboratively and effectively.

He added: “Since assuming office, about 62 criminal camps have been dismantled in Anambra, and we’re not resting for a second.

“In Anambra, we pride ourselves on being one of the safest states in the country, and security remains a top priority.”
