In a historic move, a three-man team from renowned Spanish football club, FC Barcelona, arrived in Awka on Sunday to scout for young footballers in the state.
The team, comprising Daniel Busquets Ayllón, Albert Atmeller Lurbe, and Ejike Paschal, was warmly received by the Managing Director/CEO of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA), Ossy Onuko, and the Chairman of Anambra State Sports Commission, Patrick Estate.
According to Onuko, the visit was a testament to the growth and development of sports in Anambra State, made possible by the vision of Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo.
He ssid “The Governor has provided a platform for sports development in the state, and this has attracted international attention.
Estate applauded the initiative, stating that it had the potential to revolutionize sports in Anambra State and Nigeria as a whole.
He expressed the commission’s readiness to partner with the team to ensure that the objectives of their visit were met and that young footballers in the state would maximize the opportunity.
The Chairman also emphasized the need for strategic partnership with the state football team, Solution Football Club, to build a formidable football academy that would serve as a breeding ground for global football stars.
The visit is a significant milestone in the development of sports in Anambra State, and stakeholders are optimistic about the potential outcomes.
