The Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC), chaired by Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, has approved major infrastructure contracts worth tens of billions of naira, aimed at boosting connectivity, upgrading public facilities, and enhancing social amenities across the state.
The approvals were part of resolutions reached at the council’s 19th meeting of the year, held on Monday, September 15, 2025, at the Government House, Awka.
Among the most significant projects is the dualisation of the Ekwulobia–Ufuma Road, including a new bridge, awarded to Lebtech Construction Ltd at a contract sum of about ₦38 billion.
The Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, said the Council also approved ₦927,048,040.67 for the construction of a playground, volleyball and tennis courts, external works, and associated structures at the Ekwulobia Stadium Complex, Aguata LGA, to be executed by M.O. & C International Ltd.
Other contracts approved include the construction of Adili/Park Road with a spur to the Building Materials Market, Nnewi, awarded to Ferrotex Construction Co. for ₦1.4 billion, and the construction of School Road with interlocking pavement stones at Iyiowa Odekpe, awarded to Roadways Nig. Ltd for ₦2.23 billion.
The Council also approved ₦172 million for external works at the VIP Lounge of the Chinua Achebe International Airport, Umueri, to Gill Associates Ltd, and ₦157.7 million for the supply and installation of furniture at the same facility, awarded to Gold Coast Shelters Ltd.
In addition, ₦147 million was approved for the rehabilitation and asphaltic overlay of the premises of the Anambra State Civil Service Commission, Awka, while ₦124.9 million was earmarked for the marking of stop lines, pedestrian crosswalks, and yellow box traps across traffic light junctions in the state, to be handled by Navigator Sign Ltd.
The supply and installation of medical equipment at the General Hospital, Enugwu-Otu Aguleri, was awarded to Minek Multi-Care Nig. Ltd for ₦346.6 million.
The construction of two suspended floor six-classroom blocks at Awada Secondary School, Obosi, was also approved at a contract sum of ₦174.3 million in favour of Conifer Kunstruction (Nig) Ltd.
Dr. Mefor explained that the Council reaffirmed its principle of awarding projects strictly on the basis of strategic and economic significance, rather than electoral considerations, stressing that no new project would be initiated merely for the sake of the election season, as had been the practice in the past.
He further reiterated the Soludo administration’s pledge not to owe contractors, noting that the policy of prompt payment has been sustained since the governor assumed office.
“These projects are expected to boost infrastructure, improve the quality of life for Ndi Anambra, and attract fresh investments to the state,” the statement added.
