Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has charged students in the state to shun the urge to seek quick wealth, insisting that only hard work can guarantee success.

Soludo spoke on Thursday at an event in Awka, Anambra State capital, which was put together by Anambra State Civic and Social Reformation Office (ANCISRO); a government agency, in collaboration with an NGO, E-KEEPAS Enterprise, to commemorate this year’s International Day of the Boy Child.

The governor who was represented by the state Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor was speaking on the backdrop of the recent crave for quick wealth in the society, and the rampancy of Internet fraud.

He said: “You need to know that hardwork pays. Do not be envious of people especially the fraudsters. Don’t take them as your role model. There are so much opportunities you can explore to develop yourselves in this administration. Once you are disciplined, persistent and focused, you will become better persons tomorrow.

“Today, a lot of opportunities abound, from where any serious minded person can make genuine living. You can explore Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and other opportunities to boost you knowledge and excel in your fields of endeavour.”

Keynote speaker, Dr Akachukwu Maduakolam, an educationist who spoke on the theme; boys today, great men tomorrow, urged parents, community leaders, industrialists, captain of industries and other successful individuals to support education and development of the boy child through mentorship and guidance.

He stressed that just like the girl child, the boy child is even more prone to being deceived by bad influence, or most times societal pressure. He urged the boys not to give up, no matter the pressure to indulge in wrongdoing.

The event was attended by male students from several schools within the state capital, including public, private and mission owned secondary schools.

Earlier, the Managing Director, Anambra State Civic and Social Reformation Office (ANCISRO), Mr Chuka Nnabuife explained that objectives of the programme was to build the moral virtues of the boys while empowering them to seek knowledge to excel in life rather than engaging on abnormal behaviours because of trends.
