Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo, is drawing applause after boldly revealing that nearly all criminals arrested in the Southeast are of Igbo origin — not Fulani.

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), a prominent Islamic human rights group, has described Soludo’s declaration as “courageous, honest, and groundbreaking,” saying the governor has shattered years of ethnic stereotyping and false narratives.

Speaking at a town hall meeting with Anambra indigenes in the diaspora at Metro Points Hotel in Maryland, USA, Soludo dropped the bombshell:
“99.99 percent of kidnappers and other criminals arrested in Anambra since I assumed office have been Igbos.”

That blunt truth, according to MURIC’s Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, was exactly what Nigeria needed to hear.

“This is not just a statement — it’s a national awakening,” Akintola said in a Friday press release.

“Governor Soludo has dared to say what many fear to utter. He didn’t dance to the gallery or chase clout. He spoke facts backed by data.”

The group hailed Soludo’s refusal to blame outsiders for the Southeast’s security woes, calling his stance a rare display of leadership, patriotism, and readiness for national responsibility.

“Soludo has shown presidential character. He’s a Nigerian-president-in-the-waiting,” MURIC declared.

The group also cautioned against the dangerous stereotype that every crime in the South is committed by Fulanis, stating that such profiling has endangered innocent lives.

“Crime has no tribe, no religion,” Akintola said. “Soludo’s bold correction of this dangerous myth is a big step toward healing and truth-telling.”

MURIC called on traditional rulers and political leaders in the region to follow Soludo’s lead, urging them to stop shielding criminals with ethnic sentiment.

The organization further appealed to Igbos to rally behind Soludo, describing him as “a treasure without measure — a detribalized leader who speaks truth to his people and rejects sycophancy.”

In a final charge to all Nigerians, MURIC said, “Let reason triumph over emotion. Let facts silence fiction. Soludo has shown the way — now let others follow”
