Anambra state Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has continued to keep mum over the indefinite strike embarked upon by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) in the State
The strike has crippled activities in all the Courts in the state, from Awka to Nnewi to Onitsha, Ekwulobia among others as the premises are under lock.
The strike declared by the Union in a circular made available to THE RAZOR and signed by the Assistant Secretary, Nwezi Ugochukwu, started Monday this week.
The strike, according to the Union, became necessary because the state Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, ignored the 21- Day ultimatum given by the Union, which expired Thursday, last week.
When THE RAZOR visited the state Judiciary complex in Awka, the place was locked without any trace of a single worker.
The strike notice was copied to all Directors, Deputy Directors, Assistant Chief Registrars, Registrars in-charge, and staff of the Anambra State Judiciary.
The Anambra State Government had failed to comply with the agreements reached in 2011 and 2015 with the state JUSUN.
The agreements centered on the full implementation of the Consolidated Judiciary Salary Structure (CONJUS), a peculiar allowance for judiciary staff in the state.
THE RAZOR, gathered that the Secretary to the state government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu, who, it was learnt is at head of negotiations on labour related matters, had not been a worker friendly person.
According to one of the members of JUSUN, who did not want to be mentioned, ” he hates workers and doesn’t want anything good for them”
The Razor, equally gathered that Soludo had refused to see the leadership of JUSUN to discuss the issue, even before the ultimatum was issued, which the government ignored.
However, a government official, who did not want to be quoted, told Razor Tuesday that very soon, the Governor would meet with the striking workers for the way forward.
“Arrangements are on to discuss with the Union. There’s no cause for alarm ” the source said.
