Anambra State Governor Professor Chukwuma Soludo has offered his condolences to the family of Miss Chinwe Igwe, the victim of a tragic shooting at the Onitsha Main Market on Tuesday.
Governor Soludo met with representatives of Igwe’s family from Ikwo in Ebonyi State at the Onitsha North Local Government Headquarters.
Miss Igwe was accidentally shot dead during a fracas in the market which involves traders and operatives of OCHA Brigade, and agency that works to curb street trading in the state
During the meeting, Governor Soludo assured the family that a thorough investigation will be conducted to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident, emphasizing that any security personnel found to be at fault will face prosecution.
He added that: “It is essential that operatives adhere to established protocols to avoid preventable tragedies because every life matters.
“Anambra is a state governed by law and order, and we want that to reflect in every facet of life. We want people to be treated with respect.
“We thank the law enforcement agencies for their swift response to the situation, we are urging them to continue their efforts to maintain peace and order throughout the state.”
Soludo also visited a private Hospital in Onitsha and Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital in Nnewi to offer his sympathies to three of the injured individuals, who are recovering from injuries sustained during the incident.
