Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has formally written to the state House of Assembly seeking approval for a virement in the 2025 budget to address emerging priorities and economic constraints.
The governor’s letter, read during plenary by Speaker Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, explained that the request was necessitated by limited resources, shifting priorities, and prevailing economic challenges.
The proposed virement seeks authorization to adjust both capital and recurrent expenditures, as well as capital receipts, within the framework of the already approved 2025 budget.
In his letter, Governor Soludo emphasized that the state government is taking decisive steps to meet pressing needs across Anambra State, ensuring that public funds deliver maximum value and impact for residents.
He urged the House to consider and approve the draft virement for the 2025 Appropriation Bill without delay.
Following the reading of the letter, Speaker Udeze referred the request to the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, directing the committee to report back to the House within the coming week.
What is a Virement?
A virement is the official transfer of funds within a government’s budget from one department or project to another. It allows governments to reallocate resources to areas of higher priority without increasing the overall budget, ensuring flexibility in responding to emerging needs and economic realities.
