Soludo urged to investigate Ekwusigo LG chair,

Anambra State government has been urged to constitute an ad-hoc panel to investigate the activities of the Chairman of Ekwusigo local government area of the state.

The Anambra State House of Assembly made the resolution during plenary where it sat to consider several reports presented before it by the Committee on Public Petitions.

The resolution followed a petition titled Complaint against the Chairman Local Government service Commission Awka and the Chairman Ekwusigo local government area over victimization, lack of fair hearing and illegal imposition of indefinite suspension from office.

The Chairman of the Public Petition Committee, Mr Obi Nweke told the House that one Mrs Obiazi Chinyere wrote the petition saying that she was subjected to unfair treatment, victimization and inhuman treatment for standing against Corruption by the local government Chairman while she was the Head of Local Government Administration of the council in 2024.

He noted that part of the prayer of the Petitioner is that the Indefinite suspension imposed on her by the State Civil Service Commission be lifted so she can go back to work.

The Speaker, Mr Somtochukwu Udeze who presided over the plenary reported progress after the House resolved to the Committee on the whole where the recommendations were debated and adopted by the members.

The resolution committee observed that the crime of revealing secret document as alleged by the Council Chairman against the Petitioner cannot be said to have been committed by the woman because there was no mental guilt.

The House observed that she was persuaded to divulge information to the Chairman’s close friend because of several entreaties to the Chairman who failed to pay her supposed entitlements.

The resolution recommended that the Petitioners suspension based on the allegations of the Chairman was an injustice and should be reversed with immediate effect.

That the government is urged to appoint an adhoc Committee outside the local Government Service Commission to investigate the activities of the Chairman of Ekwusigo local government area in order to purge him of all his alleged corruption, high handedness, financial rascality and administrative impunity so that the local government money should be prudently utilized.

The House concluded by observing that the Chairman of Ekwusigo local government area does not seem to understand his job as his recklessness and financial rascality are obvious and that he needs orientation or face prosecutions before Anti graft agency.

The law makers after adopting the recommendations in a voice vote, adjourned plenary to Tuesday 15th April 2025.

THE RAZOR made attempts to reach the chairman for his reactions to the allegations, but called to his cell phone was not attended to.
