Soludo’s Solar Powered Streetlights to be Switched on Soon – Commissioner

Anambra State government has said that the process to switch from diesel powered streetlight to solar powered, will be completed soon.

This was made known by the state commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engr Julius Chukwuemeka during his chat with newsmen on Monday.

Engr. Chukwuemeka stated that government suspended the diesel powered because of it’s cost implication, maintenance of the generators and the adverse effects to the environment.

According to the Commissioner, at the time the diesel powered is being used, the cost of diesel was between N200 and N250 per litre, but now, it is between N800 and N850 per litre. The commissioner, added that hundreds of millions was being spent on diesel alone to power the generators.

Chukwuemeka, stated that the Soludo adminstration, arrived on the decision of switching the streetlights to solar powered in order to cut cost of governance, as well as to save the environment.
