Southeast RATTAWU officials visit NTA Onitsha over demolition, broker peace

A team of South East Officers from Radio Television Theatre Art Workers Union (RATTAWU), led by the National Vice President, Prince Emeka Kalu have visited NTA Onitsha, over the recent demolition of structures in their premises.

Kalu also brokered peace between the General Manager and Staff of NTA Onitsha and the Anambra State Physical Development Board, who led the demolition exercise.

The VP on hearing about the demolition of Shanties at Trans Nkisi Onitsha station, that resulted in fracas between NTA Onitsha, Landlords Association and the Physical Development Board Team, called the GM, RATTAWU Members and insisted the Chairman of the Physical Development Board, should revisit the scene for amicable resolution of the misunderstanding.

Prince Kalu asked all RATTAWU Members to continue their legitimate duties without fear of molestation.

He reasoned that government and media workers should see themselves as partners in progress, since the media provide the facilities with which Governments channel their progress reports and constraints of governance to the governed.

During the meeting, Kalu told both factions: “It’s a no brainer for government to be having squabbles with media workers, since without the media, no government would be noticed.”

He thanked all parties for the understanding and amicable resolution of the avoidable imbroglio.

Earlier, the Chairman of Anambra State Physical Planning Board (ANSPPB). Barrister Chike Maduekwe, had said governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo led- administration is fully committed to building a conducive environment for socioeconomic activities to strive.

Maduekwe emphasized why the shops were demolished, noting that the affected shops were also used as residential purposes, furnished with open toilets and also harbour criminals in the area.

He said: “The State Government has marked the Trans-Nkisi housing estate to be the “Maitaima of Anambra. What we are currently doing is not far from the conducive environment any right thing person will think of.

“Governor Soludo’s vision of making Anambra a peaceful, clean, green, secure, livable and prosperous homeland is firmly rooted in the rule of law that guides anyone leaving in the State irrespective of tribe, ethic region and political placement.

“The Anambra Physical Planning Board (ANSPPB) under my watch is mandated to protect government land and ensure that the state does not developed into slum. Therefore, the demolition in equestion don’t targeted the NTA property or any government agency situated in the area as being painted in the social media by the enemies of the government.”
