Stop destroying youth with Mkpurummiri, Umunya monarch warns drug peddlers

The traditional ruler of Umunya in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, Igwe Kris Onyekwuleje, has warned drug peddlers to stop destroying the youth in the South-East with methamphitamine, known as Mkpulummili.
The monarch stated this in his speech at the weekend in Awka during the maiden edition of bloggers summit organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council.
He said many youth in the area had been ruined by methamphitamine intake, imploring them to desist from taking such drugs in their own good and future.
He said,” I want to appeal to our youths to please stop destroying their lives with crystal methamphitamine ,”Mkpulummili’ This drugs can only destroy your lives and your future. You keep destroying your future with the intake and abuse of this killer drug.
‘Today many are seen roaming the streets mad, some in rehabilitation centres while some even dead. Too bad a situation!. For your own good and that of your family, please stop.
‘I am equally appealing to the consciences of those selling the drugs to retrace their steps. If they end up making the money will they spend it on an insane society?.
The monarch commended the state governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, for the manner in which he had been handling insecurity in the state, saying that had restored the hope of the people of the state, who he said were known for being very high enterpreneual people.
The monarch enjoined journalists and bloggers to remain committed to their profession and shun the temptation of feeding the public with fake news, lamenting that the advent of android phones had completely transformed the way people read and interpret news.
The monarch’s address read partly, “It is a well known fact that growth and development of any society depends largely on the contribution of the press. Without the journalists, the world would surely have remained in darkness. You represent the light of every Nation with your prompt, accurate and timely reportage of news and events. I commend you all.
“I would like to inform you all that your contributions are well appreciated.The Impact of your job is seen in every sphere of modern day society. Effective press reporting can only be sustained where facts are reported. We are all aware that wrong or false information destroys faster and should be avoided at all costs.
“I employ you all to try as much as possible to avoid fake or biased reports because of the negative impact it has on our people and society at large. As bloggers, the quality of your content must be rich, informative and growth- oriented. The advent of mobile phones have completely transformed the way people read and interpret news.
“Personally, I had to put aside alot of commitments and engagements just to honor this great occassion knowing the importance it hold in our society. As your father, I am advising you to be on the right track always. The quality of your reports must reflect in the quality of life of our youths and children.
“Our actions and inactions at any point in time could have adverse effects on the growth and development of the society, especially now that things are not really working well in our Country.
.”Having said this much, I would like to thank the leadership of NUJ in Anambra state, your Chairman Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu has been a good friend for many years. Please work in unity for the common interest of the union.I am always available to answer to your call whenever the need arises. I am equally honored to be the Royal Father of the day at this very important occassion.”
