The Rise of APC in Anambra: How Paul Chukwuma repositioned the party

Politics

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is rapidly gaining momentum in Anambra State politics, emerging as a formidable force ahead of the 2025 governorship election.

Once viewed with skepticism, the APC has undergone significant transformations, making it an attractive platform for politicians.

Recent developments within the party underscore its growing appeal.

In the past week, two prominent Anambra politicians, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo and Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, declared their intention to contest the governorship election on the APC platform.

Another aspirant, Sir Azuka Okwuosa, had earlier expressed interest in running in the November 8, 2025, governorship election.

At the centre of the APC’s transformation is Sir Paul Chukwuma, a leading governorship aspirant and key architect of the party’s repositioning.

Chukwuma attributes the APC’s newfound status to deliberate efforts to rebuild and revitalize its structures.

“Through the good work that we have done, a new APC has emerged,” Chukwuma said in an interview.

“If the party had not been repositioned, you wouldn’t see these individuals interested in joining,” he added

Chukwuma’s leadership has been instrumental in this transformation.

Over the past 18 to 24 months, he and his team have invested time and resources to restructure the party at all levels.

Chukwuma financed the establishment of the APC state office in Awka, local government offices in all 21 LGAs, and ward offices in the 326 wards across Anambra State.

These efforts have bolstered the party’s visibility and credibility among the electorate. The wave of interest in the APC, particularly from influential figures like Okonkwo, Ukachukwu, and Okwuosa, highlights a growing belief that the party has become a viable platform for achieving political aspirations in the state.

“We are happy to see our brothers, ndi Anambra, identifying with the APC,” Chukwuma said, adding “Of all the political parties in Anambra, they have chosen ours as the best platform.”

The APC’s emergence as a “new bride” in Anambra politics signals a shift in the state’s political landscape.

As the 2025 governorship election approaches, the party’s revitalized structure and growing appeal suggest it is no longer an outsider but a serious contender.
