Umeh weeps over Iwuanyanwu’s demise, says Igbo Nation losing Icons in quick succession

Senator Victor Umeh, representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, was overcome with emotion as he mourned the passing of Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

At an event in Ngodo, Nise, on Thursday, Umeh lamented the loss of another Igbo leader, saying the nation is losing its icons in quick succession.

He listed notable figures like George Obiozor, Ogbennaya Onu, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Alex Ekwueme, Ben Nwabueze, amongst others as those who had passed away recently.

Umeh described Iwuanyanwu’s death as a tragic loss, saying he died while serving the Igbo nation.

Iwuanyanwu, 82, passed away on Thursday after a brief illness, according to a statement by his son, Jide Iwuanyanwu.

The late Iwuanyanwu was a renowned figure, serving as President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide and President of Owerri Peoples Assembly. He is survived by his wife, Lady Princess Frances Iwuanyanwu, and many children and grandchildren.

The burial details will be announced later by the family after due consultations.

Senator Umeh’s emotional tribute reflects the widespread sadness and sense of loss felt across the Igbo nation at the passing of another respected leader.
