The members of Umuoji Improvement Union of Nigeria (UIUN) on Saturday, 20th September 2025, trooped out en masse at the Civic Centre (White House) to elect a new set of Executive that will pilot the affairs of the town union for the next three years.
The election, which started with accreditation of voters, head count, and then voting, had 292 delegates drawn from branches, Villages, Women wing, Umuokpu Adaora, Umuoji Youth Wing, Clubs, that make up the affiliate members of the Town Union.
The election adjudged by observers as peaceful, free, fair, and credible produced Chief (Sir) Cyril Ifeanyichukwu Muoemenam (Ichie Chinechendo) as the President General.
Sir Muoemenam, who is the incumbent President General, polled 243 to defeat his opponent, Chief Cosmos Ikeme (Ochiagha, Ichie Ugwunze), who polled 38 votes.

Peter Okafor – Secretary General; Comrade Ashinze Nweje – Asst Nat Secretary General; Dr. Uchenna Udegbe – Financial Secretary General; Nwosu Obinna – Asst Financial Secretary 1; Nnadi Oluchukwu- Asst Financial Secretary 2; Azubuike Obum – National Treasurer; Hon. Mmaduabuchi Onwumelu, KSJI, Anipr –
National Publicity Secretary/Public relations Officer; Engr Chuks Odina – Chief Provost ; Nze Vincent Okeke-Akwa -Asst Provost 1; Mike Tochukwu Onwuachu – Asst Provost 2 and Chuka Igwilo – Social Welfare.
Addressing newsmen shortly after the election, the newly elected President General expressed delight with the comportment of the delegates, before, during, and after the election, thanking them for finding him and the other newly elected officers worthy to serve, adding that he would not betray their trust or abuse the privilege.
Chief Muoemenam, popularly known as Buluegwu, stated that he would make peace, unity, and progress his watchwords, calling on Umuojians to join him in his onerous task of completing and commissioning all the existing developmental projects in Umuoji and as well commence new ones.
He thanked the members of the Electoral Committee headed by Chief Obinna Nwachukwu for living up to expectations, saying that he was impressed with the way and manner the election was conducted.
He commended the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, for creating an enabling environment for all the communities in the state.
Earlier in a remark, the Regent of Umuoji High Chief Dr Christopher Nnedu (Ichie Eze Odezuluigbo) congratulated the newly elected officers and charged them to work for the greater good of the community.
The election was monitored by observers from the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
