Uncompleted three storey building collapses in Ifite

A three storey building has collapsed at Ifite area of Awka, the capital of Anambra State.

Residents of the area said the building which was still under construction as at the time it caved in, is located in the Nnamdi Azikiwe University student’s hostel dominated area.

Uchenna Chukwuma, a resident of the area who shared a video of the collapsed structure said no life was lost in the incident.

Building collapse has been a recurring incident in Anambra lately, with the most recent being the collapse of a two storey building in a market in Amawbia, which trapped many vegetable sellers before they were rescued. Four persons lost their lives in the incident.

A five floor centenary building owned by Dennis Memorial Grammar School, a mission school by Anglican Church and a block of stalls in Ochanja Market owned by Anambra State government had also collapsed.

Anambra State governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo had set up a panel to investigate the collapses, before this recent one.
