Jubilation erupted as the Council of Legal Education (CLE) approved University on the Niger’s law degree programme.

The decision was made during the CLE’s third quarterly meeting on September 27, 2024, chaired by Chief Emeka Ngige, SAN.

University on the Niger, located in Umunya, Anambra State, joins four other institutions granted approval: University of Ilesa, Osun State; Maduka University, Enugu State; Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ebonyi State; and Arthur Jarvis University, Cross River State.

Each university received a quota of 50 students at the 100 level.

Reacting to the news, Oseloka Offor praised UniNiger’s achievement, saying, “UniNiger in Onitsha, Anambra State, deepens into the skies of legal education in Nigeria. Something super great is happening in the commercial city of Onitsha. We’ve never had it so good.”

Publisher of The RAZOR NEWSPAPER, Tony Okafor, a journalist and law graduate, described the development as “great” and a testament to Anambra’s progress. “It’s not easy for a new university to get such approval from the council so quick and so simple.”

Engr Michael Orekyeh credited Prof Chinedu Nebo’s leadership, citing his experience as VC at UNN, Federal University Oye Ekiti, and now University on the Niger. “I was there the day the accreditation team for the Council of Legal Education visited the institution.”

University on the Niger was approved by the Federal Executive Council on May 15, 2023, making it one of the newest universities in Anambra state.

As the brainchild of the Diocese on the Niger, the premier Diocese and cradle of Christianity in West Africa, University on the Niger aims to excel in academic and moral excellence.

The university’s motto, “Lux Fiat via Sapientia,” translates to “Show the Light through Wisdom and Knowledge.”

University on the Niger will offer programs through four faculties: Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Faculty of Sciences and Computing, Faculty of Management and Social Sciences and Faculty of Law.

This approval marks a significant milestone for University on the Niger, solidifying its position as a hub for quality education in Anambra State.
