In a dramatic turn of events, Professor Joseph Ikechebelu has returned to his former office as Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, following his removal as Acting Vice Chancellor on Saturday, July 20.

This development was announced by Dr. Emmanuel Ojukwu, Special Adviser to the Vice Chancellor on Special Duties and Public Relations, at a press conference on Monday.

According to Dr. Ojukwu, the University’s Governing Council has appointed Professor Carol Arinze-Umobi as the new Acting Vice Chancellor, while the position of Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) will be filled soon.

The latest development comes after a tumultuous week that saw the Governing Council direct Ikechebelu to hand over to Umobi or face disciplinary action.

Ikechebelu’s removal was linked to a leadership crisis that had been brewing in the University.

With Ikechebelu’s return to his former office, the University appears to be moving to stabilize its leadership and restore normalcy to the campus.
