Politics

As the Anambra State governorship election draws near, Jude Umennajiego, a lawyer and gubernatorial candidate on the platform of a factional Labour Party (LP), has declared that he is the chosen candidate who will be elected Governor of Anambra State by November 8, 2025.

Currently a lawmaker representing Onitsha South II Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Umennajiego expressed confidence in his victory despite the internal crisis within the Labour Party.

Speaking with newsmen in Onitsha, he likened himself to the biblical figure of David, drawing parallels between his situation and David’s anointment as king of Israel.

“What God cannot do does not exist. Have this at the back of your mind,” he said.

Umennajiego stated that his motivation for seeking the governorship is to serve the people of Anambra State and improve on previous leaders’ efforts.

“My desire is to do what is right and to serve the people of Anambra State. My motivation is to improve on what the previous leaders have done and do them better,” he said.

On the Labour Party crisis, Umennajiego expressed optimism that the issue would be resolved, describing party members as “one big family” with differing interests.

“I know that ultimately the in-house crisis within the LP will be resolved. We are one big family. You know what is happening is that everybody wants his own interest to be protected,” he added.
