You Lack Principles, YPP Slams Anambra Reps Member, Peter Uzokwe

The Young Progressives Party (YPP), Anambra State Chapter, has dismissed as “bogus and laughable” a claim by Hon. Peter Uzokwe, member representing Nnewi North, Nnewi South, and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency, that the party has no candidate in the forthcoming November 8, 2025, gubernatorial election in the state.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Tuesday, October 29, 2025, and signed by its State Publicity Secretary, Prince Oforbuike Okoli-Egbo, the party described Uzokwe’s remarks as “a desperate attempt to remain politically relevant,” alleging that the lawmaker has long distanced himself from party activities.

According to the YPP, Uzokwe “has neither attended a single YPP event since his election nor convened any meeting of party faithful,” and therefore lacks the moral standing to speak on behalf of the party in Anambra State.

“Hon. Uzokwe, a man with no political capital other than riding on the goodwill and towering image of the late Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Ubah, has again displayed his trademark inconsistency and opportunism,” the statement read in part.

The YPP further accused the lawmaker of benefitting from the massive support base built by the late Senator Ubah and the grassroots structures of loyal party members during the last general elections, noting that Uzokwe even lost in his own polling unit at Egbema Community Primary School, Ozubulu Ward 3.

Describing him as “a potential one-term accidental lawmaker,” the party alleged that Uzokwe’s “porous political choices” and frequent shifts of allegiance among political parties portray him as “a man lacking principle, conviction, and consistency.”

Reaffirming its participation in the November 8 governorship election, the YPP maintained that it has a duly nominated candidate, Sir Paul Chukwuma, whose campaign, themed HIS — Human Capital Development, Infrastructure, and Security, is said to be gaining momentum across the state’s 21 local government areas.

“The public should disregard Uzokwe’s baseless claims as the rantings of a politically stranded individual seeking relevance through mischief,” the statement concluded, urging Anambra voters to support the YPP for a “prosperous and progressive” state.
