Anambra State YPP Deputy Governorship Candidate, Uzu Okagbue, has raised the alarm over what he describes as a total collapse of security in the state, accusing the government of abandoning its people to kidnappers.

Speaking after yet another night of violent attacks in his hometown of Umunnachi on Friday, August 2, 2025, Okagbue said the once peaceful community has been reduced to a trembling hamlet.

“For the past seven weeks, I have dwelt in what used to be a haven of peace – my once-quiet community of Umunnachi. Today, it is a trembling hamlet under weekly siege by audacious kidnappers who now operate with chilling boldness and regularity,” he lamented.

He revealed that the latest attack on Friday night led to another abduction, describing these incidents as no longer isolated but now a terrifying routine.

He blasted the state government for failing to protect lives and property. “What haunts me most is not just the criminality, it is the silence, the inertia, the shameful detachment of a government that has either chosen to abandon its people or is so steeped in mediocrity that it no longer recognises its core responsibility – the security and welfare of its citizens,” he added.

According to him, fear now hangs like a thick cloud over Umunnachi and other parts of the state, as gunshots and cries of victims have become part of daily life.

Okagbue accused the present administration of choosing image over impact. “The response from the government? Deafening silence, cosmetic press releases, and empty media charades that mock the pain of the very people they swore to protect.

” A leadership that cannot guarantee the safety of its people has forfeited the moral right to govern them. The time to speak up is now. Ndi Anambra deserve better,” he stated.
