From the quiet civic centre of Umunnachi to the buzzing streets of Enugwu-Ukwu, one name continues to echo across Anambra State’s political landscape — Sir Paul Chukwuma, the governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP).
With the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) having just lifted the ban on campaigns, Sir Paul has hit the ground running, emerging as the surprise “beautiful bride” of the November 8, 2025 governorship contest.
Across towns and communities, a groundswell of support continues to greet the candidacy of the Umueri-born businessman and politician.
Each campaign stop is marked by surging crowds, warm community endorsements, and a growing sense of excitement.
It is becoming increasingly evident that Chukwuma and his running mate, Chief Uzu Okagbue, are not just making inroads — they are reshaping the political conversation in Anambra State.
One such moment came on Saturday in Umunnachi, Dunukofia Local Government Area, where the community turned out in full force to express unalloyed support for the YPP ticket.
At the town’s civic centre, a large gathering of elders, traditional title holders, women’s groups, youth organizations, and cultural troupes came together to openly endorse Chukwuma and Okagbue.
The President General of the community, Arch Frank Okonkwo, captured the mood when he remarked, “This civic centre has never been this filled. Uzu Okagbue is a man we are proud of. He has been a son of service. Today, we do not just welcome him — we embrace his candidacy.”
Chief Uzu Okagbue, a native of Umunnachi, was visibly moved as he formally informed his people of his candidacy.
“I am here to tell you all that your son is on the ballot. I stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Sir Paul Chukwuma, and together, we will fix Anambra,” he declared to resounding applause.
Barely two days later, the YPP campaign train made another significant stop in Enugwu-Ukwu, where the founder of the thriving Mega Abattoir and Suya Spot, Chief Michael Onyeka Obidi, hosted Chukwuma, Okagbue, and their team.
The reception was electric — traditional musicians, entertainers, and a large crowd of enthusiastic supporters created an atmosphere of energy and hope.
Chukwuma, speaking at the event, praised the entrepreneurial resilience of Chief Obidi and used the opportunity to state his vision for Anambra.
“Despite the harsh business climate created by the current administration, Chief Obidi is thriving. This is the type of resilience we must protect. My administration will bring security, reduce taxes, and support ventures like this across Anambra,” Chukwuma said.
He did not hold back in his criticism of the current administration under Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo. “Instead of focusing on things that matter, the government is building swimming pools and ‘jangleovers.’
Is it a hungry man that will go swimming?” he asked rhetorically. He continued, “By 7 p.m., most towns in Anambra shut down because of insecurity. We must restore law and order. Without safety, there can be no economy.”
Chief Obidi, in his remarks, described Chukwuma as one of his greatest supporters in business. “He understands the struggles of entrepreneurs. He listens. That’s why we trust him,” he said.
Chukwuma has consistently outlined his commitment to restoring Anambra’s lost nightlife by tackling insecurity, removing the extortionist multiple-taxation system that stifles small businesses, creating jobs through entrepreneurial support, and placing people at the centre of governance.
His running mate, Uzu Okagbue, echoed these concerns, lamenting the economic hardships faced by ordinary citizens.
“Disposable income is shrinking, and people are suffering. With the YPP in power, Anambra will rise again,”Okagbur assured.
For the first time in years, the YPP appears poised to mount a serious challenge to the long-standing dominance of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra politics.
With energetic grassroots engagements, local endorsements, and a message that resonates with everyday people, the Paul Chukwuma–Uzu Okagbue ticket is gaining traction with remarkable speed.
“Only a week into the campaign season, Sir Paul Chukwuma has become the political equivalent of a beautiful bride — sought after, celebrated, and seemingly unstoppable,” said Dozie Chukwuka, a resident in Anambra.
As the race intensifies, one thing is certain: in the November 8 governorship election, the YPP is no longer a fringe player. It is a rising force, and Paul Chukwuma is riding its wave with confidence, vision, and growing popular acclaim.
