Nnewi South LGA Secretariat re-opens for work 2 years after gunmen’s attack

Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State has reopened for work barely two years after unknown gunmen attacked it.

As a consequence, the Transition Committee Chairman of the LGA , Ikenna Aniagboso, has resumed work at Ukpor, the headquarters of council.

Recall that Ukpor, the headquarters of the LG was closed down for nearly two years following an attack by gunmen, which left different parts of the LG secretariat destroyed.

That happened just a few weeks into the administration of the incumbent governor of the state,Prof Chukwuma Soludo.
During the peak of the insurgency, a police station opposite the LGA was also attacked and destroyed.

Sequel, political and government activities in Nnewi South LGA were conducted in the neighbouring Nnewi North LGA Headquarters in Nnewi until Thursday, February 29th, 2024,when Nnewi South LG secretariat was re-opened after major reconstruction and furnishing.

Amongst those present during the reopening of the Secretariat were House of Assembly members representing Nnewi South I and II constituencies, Nonso Atuchukwu and Johnbosco Akaegbobi, respectively.

Also in attendance was the Bishop of Amichi Diocese, Bishop Ephraim Ikeakor, who performed the re-dedication ceremony, and other stakeholders, as well as staff of the LGA

Speaking, Aniagboso, thanked Governor Soludo, homeland security team, Nnewi North LGA, stakeholders and indigenes of Nnewi South LGA.

He assured all and sundry of good times ahead.
