Political tension is building in Anambra Central Senatorial District following the appointment of Hon. Barr. Titus N. Akpudo, popularly known as “Ichaka–Egbe Eji Gbu Agu,” as Director-General of the campaign organisation of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate, Hon. Dozie Nwankwo.
The appointment of the politically influential grassroots mobiliser is being viewed in political circles as a major boost to Nwankwo’s campaign ahead of the January 16, 2027 general election.
Akpudo, a former helmsman of the Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU), now known as the Anambra State Town Unions Council (ASTUC), is reputed to have extensive relationships across the state’s 179 communities.
His emergence as the campaign Director-General is expected to bring his considerable grassroots network, political experience and community relationships to bear on Nwankwo’s bid to return to the National Assembly.
Akpudo also played a prominent role in the re-election campaign of Governor Chukwuma Soludo through the Anambra State Solution Marshal (ASSMAL) Movement, a grassroots rapid-response platform.
As State Marshal-General of the movement, he was deployed across communities in the state to showcase the achievements of the Soludo administration during its first tenure, deepen citizen engagement and promote orderliness and good governance at the grassroots.
His appointment has therefore raised political interest within the senatorial district, with observers expected to closely watch how his grassroots structures and political networks are deployed in the race.
Speaking shortly after his appointment, Akpudo said Nwankwo’s emergence as the APGA candidate for Anambra Central was similar to that of Governor Soludo, describing the former lawmaker as an all-round performer and a household name across the senatorial district.
He said Nwankwo’s record and acceptance among the people had positioned him as a strong contender and preferred choice ahead of the 2027 election.
According to the Marshal-General of the Solution Marshal Movement, members of the campaign team would be announced shortly and would comprise men and women of high repute who understand the yearnings and aspirations of the people across communities in Anambra State.
Akpudo thanked Nwankwo for the confidence reposed in him, assuring that he would “hit the ground running” to achieve the objectives and mission of the campaign organisation.
With Akpudo now at the helm of the campaign, the Nwankwo campaign is expected to draw heavily on his extensive grassroots network and relationships
with Presidents-General, traditional institutions and other recognised community stakeholders as the race for Anambra Central gathers momentum.
