A multi-million naira hotel facility, Soprom International Hotel, located at 3-3 Estate in Nkwelle Ezunaka area, near Onitsha has been gutted by fire.
The tastefully furnished hotel, which is said to be one of the best around Onitsha and environ was said to have been involved in a mystery fire, which started early Monday morning at about 4am.
A source in the city said many people who were lodged in the hotel, scampered out, when the fire broke out.
“Most of the guests came out naked, without the opportunity to pick any piece of clothing, just to save their life,” the source said.
Police authorities in Anambra also confirmed the incident, saying that the cause of the fire had not been ascertained.
Spokesperson of Anambra State Police Command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga said police operatives were immediately drafted to the area when the incident began.
“The area was immediately condoned off, to avoid hoodlums taking advantage to cause troubles or loot belongings.
“Right now, the area is being monitored, and normalcy has returned to the area,” Ikenga said.
It was gathered that a section of the hotel, which consisted of several furnished rooms, including its club and gym houses were totally razed down.
