The Senate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka has vowed to deal decisively with any lecturer found to be involved in sexual harassment of female students.
There had been a recent move by the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Charles Esimone to install closed circuit cameras in the offices of lecturers.
The move had however been stoutly rejected by some lecturers, who cited violation of their privacy.
But in a meeting of the Senate of the university, which was held on Wednesday, and whose resolutions was obtained by THE RAZOR, the Senate resolved to come down hard on lecturers found to be harassing female students for sex.
The Senate also cautioned students against indecent dressing, and other form of provocative dressings, which have most times been cited as cause of rape.
The resolution of the Senate as obtained by THE RAZOR read: “Sexual defilement of students in the offices was reported to the Senate.
“It was resolved that to check the abominable act, the management, should strictly adhere to punitive measures in line with the University laws.
“Lecturers were, therefore, warned not to indulge in such practices or face the wrath of the law. To be fore warned, is to be fore armed.
“The use of all forms of indecent dresses in the University was prohibited. Staff and students were requested to change their indecent dresses urgently. Punishment is one month community service and expulsion if repeated and found guilty,” the resolution read.
The Senate also spoke against direct sales of books by their authors to students, insisting that all books must be sold at the library.
