Anambra Mandates Digital Registration for Motorcycle Logistics Operators

News

By Tony Okafor, Awka

The Anambra State Ministry of Transport has issued a directive requiring all delivery and courier firms operating motorcycles within the state to register for and obtain a Digital Motorcycle Waiver Certificate and Sticker.

Introduced under the government’s “Solution 2.0” initiative, the measure mandates that all commercial logistics and dispatch operators secure the digital credentials before deploying motorcycles for delivery services across the state.

Operators can process and obtain the required documentation online via the ministry’s official platform or in person at the Ministry of Transport, located on the Ground Floor, Block C, Jerome Udorji Secretariat, Awka.

Alongside the licensing requirement, the ministry outlined safety protocols for dispatch riders, mandating the use of approved crash helmets, customized reflective vests, and proper footwear. Riders were further instructed to observe traffic regulations and refrain from reckless driving.

Under the new directives, operators are explicitly prohibited from carrying passengers in the space between the rider and the delivery box mounted on the vehicle.

Ministry officials stated that the policy forms part of broader state government initiatives to establish regulatory oversight within the growing motorcycle-based logistics sector and enhance general road safety.

Urging full compliance from logistics companies and independent couriers, the ministry issued a public notice emphasizing adherence to the regulations for safety compliance.

For inquiries regarding the registration process and sticker issuance, the Ministry of Transport has made dedicated support lines available via 09055449948.
