Beware! Early morning, late night motorcyclists may be robbers, victim advises Awka residents
Motorcyclists who operate very early in the morning or late in the night are likely to be disguised robbers, a victim has warned.
The victim, a middle aged woman and mother of four who sells at the popular UNIZIK junction speaking under anonymity told our reporter that her experience has shown that most of the motorcyclist who ply their trade at odd hours are not genuine, hence her resolve to warn others.
Mama Chidubem(not real name) recounted to our reporter how last week she woke up very early as usual to go to Highlife Bakery in Awka to buy bread which she will sell for the day fell into the hands of robbers who posed as okada riders.
“I entered the okada, asking him to take me to Highlife bakery, but little did I know that he was a robber. He took me through another road, and when I protested he kept quiet, and soon he stopped on a lonely path, while another man wielding a pistol came out brandishing it at me.
“They ordered me to surrender my bag to them but I refused. While the man had surrendered me with the gun, the okada man started struggling with me and my bag, but I held it tightly, and when they did not expect I seized the gun from the man.
“For more than 10minutes, we battled for possession of the gun and the bag, and even though they were beating me I held to the gun and my bag and was shouting and when it seemed that someone was coming they left me and sped off.”
She advised people who us okada very early in the morning or late at night to be very careful as not all the operators are genuine.
She has long taken the pistol to the Central Police station where she made a statement and deposited it with them, with the promise that they will conduct a forensic analysis on the arm.
As at the time of filling this report, it was uncertain what the police has been able to make out as efforts to confirm the incident and also get clues to the analysis failed, following the inability of the image maker of the police command in Anambra, Mr Uche Ezeh to take phone calls.
