Former Speaker of the Ananbra State House of Assembly Rt Hon Anayo Nnebe has died at the age of 61.
A family source said the former Speaker died at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital after a brief illness.
Nebe, popularly known as (Ichele Awka) served as Speaker of Ananbra State Assembly from 2012 and was born in 1963. An indigene of Akwa in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The former Speaker was also elected member Representing Awka North South Federal constituency in the House of Representatives on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in 2015
Nebe grew up in Awka, Anambra State where he also attended basic school. He obtained his West African Senior Certificate (WASC) in 1981 from Igwebuke Grammar School, Awka. Thereafter, he proceeded to University of Nigeria, Nsukka and graduated in 1987 with a Bachelor’s degree in sociology.
While in the Anambra State House of Assembly between 2011 and 2015, Hon. Nnebe served as the Speaker of the House. In 2015, he was elected under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to represent Awka North and South Constituency.
In 2018, Hon. Nnebe announced his defection from the People’s Democratic Party, PDP to the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.
However a family member who pleaded anonymity disclosed that family meeting would hold today to discuss further arrangement for his burial.
