A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Amawbia, Anambra State, has sentenced two men, Philip Avatus and Pius Dickson, to seven years imprisonment each for stealing iron rods valued at N1.1 million.

The duo, who hailed from Taraba State, pleaded guilty to a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing, and malicious damage when they were arraigned.

Chief Magistrate Mike Anyadiegwu, considering their guilty plea and show of remorse, sentenced them to seven years in prison each. The sentences will run concurrently.

Prosecutor Insp. Innocent Agu told the court that the defendants committed the offense on July 24 along Amawbia-Nise Road, Akwa, damaging, cutting, and stealing 120 pieces of 12mm iron rods meant for drainage construction.

The offences contravened Sections 495(a), 380(b), and 415 of the Criminal Code Cap 36 Vol. II Revise Laws of Anambra State of Nigeria 1991, as amended.
