Ritual killings and kidnappings have surged in Anambra State, with barely two months to Christmas, sparking fears among residents.
The desire for quick wealth during the festive season is suspected to be driving this trend.
On Monday, the Anambra State Police Command revealed that it recovered the lifeless body of 17-year-old Miss Chinasa Adigwe, suspected to have been killed for ritual purposes
Her corpse was found in a bush at Omasi in Ayamelum Local Government Area, and she hailed from Umueje village.
According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga, late Adigwe’s private parts were cut off, and her body has been deposited in a morgue.
Additionally, the police recovered four lifeless bodies of young men suspected to be cultists in a pool of blood with multiple gunshot injuries.
In another incident, police operatives on Sunday foiled an abduction and kidnapping plan of a foreigner by suspected armed secessionist members at Ogbunka, Orumba South Local Government Area.
The operatives engaged the hoodlums in a gun battle and saved the foreigner, although two officers were injured and are receiving medical care.
The surge in ritual killings and kidnappings has raised concerns among residents, who are calling for increased security measures to prevent further incidents.
The police have assured the public that they are working to address the issue and bring perpetrators to justice.
Residents are urging the government to take decisive action to address the root causes of ritual killings and kidnappings and ensure justice for victims and their families.
