A chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chinedu Obigwe, has strongly criticized Labour Party lawmakers in the Anambra House of Assembly for their recent press conference, where they vowed to resist Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s alleged attempts to hijack local government funds.
Obigwe described the lawmakers as “cowards” for their sudden change of heart, noting that they failed to object to the local government administration bill during its passage in the House.
“The press conference by the Labour Party lawmakers is an afterthought and medicine after death.
“They were present in the House when the bill was passed into law and did not raise any objections,” ” Obigwe said.
According to Obigwe, 26 lawmakers, including four from the Labour Party, were present during the bill’s passage.
“Not one of them objected to the passage of the local government administration bill into law,” he emphasized.
Obigwe attributed the lawmakers’ sudden opposition to manipulation by Senator Tony Nwoye.
He questioned the lawmakers’ integrity, stating, “It’s only cowards that will act like that.”
The APGA chieftain defended Governor Soludo’s administration, asserting that the local government administration bill protects Anambra’s interests.
“The interest of Anambra people is well protected under Governor Soludo’s administration,” he said.
Obigwe expressed confidence in Governor Soludo’s commitment to good governance, citing the overwhelming support he enjoys from the people, “It’s public knowledge that Governor Soludo will not do anything against the people’s interest.”
He dismissed the Labour Party lawmakers’ claims as “senseless” urging the public to ignore their “cowardly” stance.
Obigwe praised the Rt. Hon Somto Udeze-led House of Assembly for living up to the expectations of Anambra people through the enactment of laws that support Governor Soludo’s administration in delivering dividends of good governance.
The controversy surrounds the enactment of the local government administration bill into law by the Anambra House of Assembly, which the Labour Party lawmakers claim is an attempt by Governor Soludo to hijack local government funds.
