News

The people of Oba community in Idemili South local government area of Anambra state, have appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to save the town from killers over traditional stool

Some residents say the vacant traditional stool has raised dust in the area as brothers are planning to kill each other at all cost

They cried out that if nothing is done urgently, that what happened in September 3,2024 where Policeman was killed, police station, Civic centre and cars burnt will be a child’s play to what is brewing now.

During that raid by some hoodlums, all the documents belonging to the community were got burnt, including many other property.

A source in the community, who spoke with The Razor ,Saturday, alleged that the attack was masterminded by some persons in Oba, and not the usual gunmen as people believed

Their worry is that since the incident over a month ago, the security operatives, have not done anything to bring the culprits to book, while the community has been in turmoil

As a result, some respected leaders of the community are appealing to President Tinubu, the Inspector General of Police and other leaders in the country to come to the aid of Oba town

The battle for the traditional stool of Oba community has become so tensed that the lives of prominent and influential sons of the land are being threatened by some persons.

The former traditional ruler, Igwe PC Ezenwa, who was installed in 1976,died in 2018 and since then, peace has eluded the community

The Razor, gathered that a Screening Committee was inaugurated to select the suitable person for the position, headed by Darlington Agha.

During the exercise, two persons, it was learnt, were screened and selected suitable for the position, while the others who applied were disqualified by the committee for various allegations

When contacted, Darlington Agha said that his work had ended and the Committee dissolved by the President General of the town, Tony Ejiofor.

But the PG, Ejiofor, narrated how the Committee was formed and how it assisted him in screening the aspirants where two persons emerged

Not satisfied with the outcome, he said, three persons went to court to seek justice, while, according to him, the trial judge has fixed the judgement on the case for December 4,2024

“That is the situation now. I believe in truth and I like following the right path. Let us wait for the decision of the court ” Ejiofor said

Chairman of Okuzu village in the community and a Federal Character Commissioner, representing Anambra state, Rev. Uche Ukadike, said he would not discuss the issue on phone

“I’m not a Chief in the kingdom and I can’t discuss such an issue on phone” he said

Some persons in Oba, The Razor gathered, have vowed not to allow peace reign if their candidates were not installed the traditional ruler of the community

Again, it was gathered that such characters have penciled some of the prominent sons of the community to be eliminated, to pave the way for their candidates.

The two persons already picked for the vacant position of Igwe are Barrister Vincent Ananti and Engineer Chiedu Emelobe
